Flood alert issued as Phong River levels continue to rise in Loei

Some 20 households in Phu Kradueng and Si Than subdistricts, Loei province, were initially affected by flooding caused by heavy rains on Tuesday.

It is expected that the number of affected homes will rise as the water level of the Phong River continues to increase steadily.

Earlier, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) sent out warnings via the Cell Broadcast system and SMS to residents in high-risk areas, urging them to move their belongings to higher ground and to urgently relocate vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, and patients to safe locations.

The department also advised the public to closely monitor official updates and to report incidents or request assistance via the LINE account @1784DDPM or the DDPM emergency hotline at 1784, available 24 hours a day.

Similarly, the Si Than Subdistrict Administrative Organisation issued a highest-level emergency warning, stating that the water level in the Phong River continues to rise following heavy rainfall since yesterday.

This is expected to result in six villages in Si Than subdistrict — Ban Huai Duea, Ban Nam Phong, Ban Than Tawan, Na Ko, Saen Suk, and Ban Na Noi — possibly being cut off from the outside world.
